This is the procedure where aortic valve is implanted without opening the chest. A small cut is taken at groin and a small catheter is used to reach heart through which aortic valve is implanted at its place. It is same procedure as we do in angioplasty for stent placement. Tissue valve is used in this procedure. Total stay in hospital will be around 2 days.

This procedure has come up as most promising treatment for aortic valve replacement surgery in old patients. With this advances, routine major valve replacement surgery is avoided. The disadvantage being the high cost of the treatment.  

Who can undergo this procedure?

 This is indicated in high risk patients for open heart surgery, old patients , patients with already done  tissue valve replacement in past and require redo surgery.
